We created this artwork with shapes, text and gradients, then processed it with ToolTava. Download the original, select it in the tool and reproduce the settings below.

Settings and trade-offs

  1. Compression or WebP conversion: select the original PNG, WebP and quality 80%. Dimensions stay 1200×800.
  2. Resizing: keep the aspect ratio locked and enter width 600; height becomes 400. Save as WebP at quality 80%.
  3. Already optimized JPG or WebP files may not shrink. Keep the original if the new file grows or text becomes blurry.
  4. Size presets unlock the aspect ratio. Changing 1200×800 to 1080×1080 stretches the image; it does not crop it.

Measured in Chromium on September 26, 2026. Sizes are file bytes divided by 1,024. This is one synthetic image, not an average photo compression rate. Output varies by browser and image. Open files at their original size to compare fine lines and text edges; the previews alone are not a quality assessment.

Quick answer

How do I reduce image file size?

Choose PNG, JPG or WebP files and set the format and quality. Pixel dimensions stay the same. Compare the original with the result before downloading. This tool does not guarantee a specific target file size.

Which setting should I choose?
OptionUseful forWhat to check
WebPWeb photos and transparent imagesCheck whether the destination accepts WebP
JPGPhotos without transparencyThis tool replaces transparent areas with white
PNGTransparency and sharp graphicsNo quality slider; output may be larger

When an upload requires an image under 100KB

  1. Try JPG or WebP at quality 80.
  2. If the result exceeds 100KB, lower quality and compare again.
  3. If text or faces become unclear, reduce width with the resizer and compress again.

This is a workflow example, not a measured compression guarantee. Check the actual output size.

How to use

  1. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP files to compress.
  2. Choose format and quality. PNG does not support the quality slider.
  3. Compare original and output size and detail, then save the files you need.

How it works

Compression re-encodes images at the same pixel dimensions. Lower JPG or WebP quality can lose detail. Output can sometimes be larger.

Common questions

Multiple images and animations?

Process up to 20 files, 100MB total, sequentially. Download a ZIP when at least two results are ready. With aspect ratio locked, resizing calculates each height from its original proportions. Animations export the first frame only.

What goes into the ZIP if some images fail?

Only successful results are included. If one of three images fails, the ZIP contains the two successful results. With only one successful result, use its individual download. Check the failed file format and limits before processing it again.

Does downloading a ZIP reduce image sizes further?

The ZIP bundles results for one download without applying additional compression. Archive metadata can make it slightly larger than the combined image files. To reduce image sizes, adjust JPG or WebP quality and generate the results again.

Can I target exactly 500KB?

There is no automatic file size target. Lower quality and compare results, or reduce pixel dimensions with the image resizer.
